Day of the October Revolution: A Legacy that Transformed Belarus

Thursday, 07 November 2024

This year marks the 107th anniversary of the
historical event known as the Great
October Socialist Revolution, which took place on
October 25

(November 7 in the new calendar) in 1917. The Revolution left a profound mark on the history of the 20th century, becoming a symbol of change and inspiring millions to fight for equality and justice.

In Belarus, this day is celebrated annually as a public holiday (established by Presidential Decree No. 157 of March 26, 1998).

Thanks to the October Revolution, the Belarusian people gained the opportunity to create a national state — the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR), which became part of the Soviet Union and laid the foundation for modern independent Belarus.

In modern Belarus, the ideals of social justice and respect for the rights of peoples are preserved, and the Day of the October Revolution has become a symbol of these values.
