Belarus is a republic where the Day
of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers
has been given the status of a state holiday
(Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of March 26, 1998,
No. 157 "On State Holidays, Festive Days, and Memorial
Dates in the Republic of Belarus"). On this day in 1989,
the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was completed.
Today, 36 years later, the country remembers its sons who fulfilled
their military duty beyond the borders of the Motherland. Belarus honors
the memory of internationalist soldiers, whose feat will forever remain
in the history of our country.
