April 26 — Chernobyl Tragedy Memorial Day
Saturday, 26 April 2025
On this day in 1986, the world was shaken by
the largest man-made disaster — the accident
at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The reactor explosion released a massive amount of radiation into the atmosphere,
affecting dozens of countries. Belarus suffered the most — a third of the radioactive
fallout landed on its territory.
Decades have passed, but the memory of Chernobyl lives on. We remember those who were
the first to face the danger — the liquidators who showed incredible courage and
dedication.
Chernobyl remains a reminder of how fragile peace is in the face of nuclear power,
and how important responsibility is in every step of science and technology.
