On May 9, 2025, our country will mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War — a sacred date that will forever remain
a symbol of courage, resilience, and unity of the Belarusian people in the face of
a mortal threat.
For Belarus, this date holds special significance: our land was the first to take the enemy’s blow, becoming the arena of the largest battles of the early years of the war.
Three years of fascist occupation, over 2.5 million dead — every
third resident of the republic, 209 destroyed towns and settlements, 9,200
burned villages… Yet the unbroken spirit of the people, the partisan
resistance — the largest in Europe — and the hope for Victory became a symbol
of unprecedented bravery.
Today, Belarus carefully preserves the memory of our ancestors’ heroism. Memorial
complexes such as “Khatyn,” “Brest Hero-Fortress,” “Mound of Glory,”
“Trostenets,” and hundreds of other monuments across the country remind us of the
price of the Great Victory. Annual campaigns like “Belarus Remembers” and “Flowers
of the Great Victory” unite generations, passing on the torch of remembrance.
In 2025, ceremonial events, meetings with veterans, thematic exhibitions, and scientific conferences dedicated to preserving the historical truth about the war will take place across the country.
The 80th anniversary of the Great Victory is not just a date on the calendar. It is our
common duty to remember, honor, and pass on to future generations the truth about
the heroism that will forever remain in the heart of the Belarusian people.
May the memory of our ancestors’ feat live forever and inspire us
to create, to unite, and to love our homeland!
