September 17 – Day of National Unity in Belarus

Wednesday, 17 September 2025

On September 17, Belarus celebrates an important national holiday — the Day of National Unity, established by Decree No. 206 of the President of the Republic of Belarus on June 7, 2021. This date holds deep historical and symbolic significance for the Belarusian people.

The holiday marks the anniversary of the beginning of the Red Army's liberation campaign into Western Belarus in 1939. It was then that historical justice was restored: the Belarusian people, divided by the terms of the Riga Peace Treaty, were reunited on their native land. This reunification became a pivotal milestone in the history of Belarus, predetermining its future path.

The restored unity allowed the country to withstand the severe trials of the Great Patriotic War, make a huge contribution to the Victory, and later take its rightful place in the world community. Belarus became one of the founding states of the United Nations, establishing itself as a full-fledged and significant participant in international processes.

Today, the Day of National Unity symbolizes the continuity of generations, resilience, and the strength of the national spirit, serving as a reminder of the inviolability of Belarusian statehood and national self-sufficiency. It fosters a sense of belonging to the fate of the Motherland, pride in its history, and faith in the future.

The Day of National Unity is a holiday that reminds every Belarusian: the strength of the country lies in its unity, loyalty to its roots, and the aspiration for a future based on mutual respect and harmony.
