October 1 – International Day of Older Persons
Wednesday, 01 October 2025The autumn of life is often compared to an age of wisdom and maturity. Just as every season has its beauty, every stage of human life is unique and irreplaceable.
Since 1990, by the decision of the UN, October 1 is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Older Persons. In Belarus, it became a tradition in 1992. This day reminds us that the older generation deserves respect, attention, and care.
The Day of Older Persons is not only an opportunity to express appreciation and gratitude. It emphasizes the enormous contribution of older people to the development of society and the country. It was they who raised children and grandchildren, worked for the good of their families and Homeland, and left behind a rich legacy of experience and wisdom.
It is very important that older people are not left alone with their difficulties. Simple attention, a kind word, or sincere support can give them joy and strength. Our elders are our pride and value; they deserve respect and human warmth every day, not just on a holiday.
