Republican Information and Education Campaign "Belarus Against Nicotine" is held from November 3 to 21, 2025
Wednesday, 12 November 2025Goal: to draw public attention to the negative consequences of tobacco use.
According to WHO data, tobacco use is one of the most significant health threats to people worldwide. Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemical substances, of which at least 250 are known to be harmful and more than 50 are carcinogens. Exposure to these chemicals is not reduced by so-called light cigarettes or filters. Nicotine is the strongest plant-based poison that blocks oxygen supply to the body's cells. All organ systems suffer from the effects of tobacco smoke.
Tobacco smoking leads to the development of diseases such as lung cancer, pharynx cancer, larynx cancer, oral cavity cancer, chronic obstructive bronchitis, emphysema, gingivitis, stomatitis, stomach ulcers, suppresses immunity, promotes premature aging, reduces mental abilities, especially in adolescents. As a result of cigarette smoking, blood vessels narrow, blood pressure increases, blood circulation is impaired, consequently increasing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. Tobacco users, dying prematurely, deprive their families of income, increase healthcare costs, and hinder economic development.
Smokers harm not only themselves but also others, exposing them to the dangers of passive smoking (inhalation of secondhand smoke). There is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Among adults, secondhand smoke causes serious cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, including coronary heart disease and lung cancer.
The "Belarus Against Nicotine" campaign is another reason to think about your health, the health of your children, and to refuse the next cigarette.
It is necessary that every person can breathe air free from tobacco smoke.
