January 21 — Day of Influenza and ARI Prevention in Belarus: How to Protect Yourself and Loved Ones

Wednesday, 21 January 2026

On January 21, 2026, within the framework of the "Unified Health Day," the Day of Influenza and Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) Prevention is being held in Belarus. This is relevant because influenza and ARI remain the most widespread infectious diseases, especially among children.

Key information about prevention:
1. Vaccination is the most effective means of protection.
2. Non-specific protection: maintaining distance, hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette (when coughing/sneezing), wearing masks in crowded places.
3. Healthy lifestyle: ventilation, wet cleaning, walks, balanced nutrition, and hardening.

If you get sick (important recommendations):
• Do not take antibiotics on your own! They are not effective against viruses. Anti-influenza drugs (oseltamivir, zanamivir) can only be prescribed by a doctor.
• Observe bed rest. Rest will help your body fight the infection.
• Monitor your temperature. It is not recommended to reduce it until it reaches 38.5°C. Use paracetamol or ibuprofen if necessary.
• Drink plenty of fluids (water, fruit drinks, herbal teas — up to 1.5-2 liters per day).
• Ventilate the room every hour and wear light, breathable clothing.
• Consult a doctor for diagnosis and proper treatment.
This is especially important for risk groups: children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases.

Remember: your health and the health of others are in your hands. A responsible attitude towards prevention and treatment helps curb the spread of infection and avoid complications.
