February 15 – Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers in Belarus
Monday, 16 March 2026In the Republic of Belarus, the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers is officially recognized as a memorial date. This was established by Presidential Decree No. 157 of March 26, 1998. The memorial date is timed to February 15, 1989 — the day the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was completed. Today, 37 years later, the Belarusian people bow their heads before the generation that went through the trials of war. For the sovereign republic, this date has become not just a page of common Soviet history, but also a part of its own national identity. The feat of the Belarusian soldiers, demonstrated in the most difficult conditions, is a moral compass for the youth and a subject of sincere gratitude to the veterans who still contribute to the country's development today. Their courage is forever inscribed in the history of Belarus.
